POEMS OF THE MONTH (JANUARY)
Creative Director's choice-
Sweet Release
By Joseph Marshall
The buckle is broke
The holes in the belt are warped
The leather is stretched
The stitching is torn
Abused by a weight
It was not made to hold
Worn as a necklace
Despite the cost of its toll
Wedged beneath the latch
A chair bars the doorway
Facing the ceiling
Where a fan used to sway
But now it is gone
It lies upon the floor
Beaten by the strain
It couldn't take anymore
The plaster rained down
Pouring white in force
It spilled around him
Forming a line of chalk
So he lay where he fell
Groaning in agony
He thought it all would end
Then along came gravity.
Editor's choice-
Untitled
By Lev Ifergan
I fucking made it.
Just look at me now.
Soaring
I’ll crush stars if I want to
I could bring about an end
A million new beginnings
I’ll show you what I can make from this stardust
Let me teach you how to make
Something fascinating
From these remains
I’ll show you how to make a cadaver beautiful
How to add a little spark
Give it the flare of life
I’ll show you how to walk
Like you mean business
“Oh shit, I wouldn’t want to get in their way.”
No.
No, you wouldn’t.
I’ll show you how to swallow God whole
Everything that ever was or is
Gone in a gulp
And I’m still not full
