Activating Queer Mode By Lizz Jayeola

Now I’m not fully sure

what awoke this dormant part of me

the possibilities are endless,

if I had to guess, I might say

Shane and Carmen making out in ‘The L Word’

or anyone making out in ‘The L word’

Megan Fox in Transformers

Or Megan Fox in Jennifer's body

Christina Aguilera in the ‘dirrty’ music video

Or Christina Aguilera in ‘Burlesque’

Georgia, my first real woman crush

Or Ben my last real male crush

Rihanna’s fruity hit, ‘Te Amo’

Or just Rihanna in general

maybe it was the absence of my father figure

or the even stronger presence of my mother

Vanessa Hudgens in ‘High School Musical’

Or Vanessa Hudgens in ‘Spring Breakers’

The lady that looked me up and down in my nail appointment

Or the lady I swore smirked at me on my morning run

Literally every woman I’ve ever come across

Or every woman I’ve ever spoken to

Dirty men that have catcalled me

Or men who’ve had the audacity to talk to me

Perhaps men in general

Perhaps the thought of dicks in general

Beyonce, in everything

also, Beyonce in ‘Obsessed’ (a category of its own)

My quirky literature teacher with the campiest personality

Or that piece of shit, Mr Thompson

who spent half the lesson staring at our boobs

The unnamed goddess

I spent my first club experience making out with

Or the men who shall not be named I was pressured into kissing

growing up in an African, Christian household

or having no control of my life and who I could love

Either way,

Queer mode has officially been activated.
